If you live in the South East region of London and are looking for a local and intimate venue for your wedding, look no further than Shampan at the Spinning Wheel. This pub turned Indian restaurant brings the upmarket, sophisticated and high end feel of a 5 star Central London restaurant to Westerham and the locals just love it.
I have attend this restaurant as a diner, a guest at a huge Bengali wedding and a sweet sixteenth birthday party but because of it's offering of different lounges and ability to cater for different needs it was a different experience each time. Now because this is a wedding site I will focus on my experience of this restaurant as a wedding reception venue. The outside is lovely - think very old country pub slash farm house located next to a huge field. See pic below.
The wedding I attended was a Bengali wedding so you can imagine the numbers - I would say there was at least 800 guests! A marquee was attached to the outdoor dining area of the venue to house all the people so this is something to note if planning a big wedding. Judging by the exterior of the venue you think you know what the interior will look like, or at least I did. I was expecting low ceilings, wooden beams and up-cycled rustic decor but I wasn't even close. The interior is seriously impressive and is somehow 5x bigger inside. There is a chic bar and lounge area as you enter and then the restaurant is divided into sections with modern cut-out walnut panels.
There is also a private dining room to the rear of the venue which also acts as a bridal suite with it's own personal bar! If you don't want to use it as a bridal suite it can be used to seat guests for segregated weddings. Note this room leads to the outdoor seating area so it can be extended with a marquee.
Now the best and most important thing about a restaurant venue is of course the in-house catering. By booking a restaurant, not only do you get a good deal on the venue hire but also the food. Booking both means you get the best deal they offer as any venue would want you to book everything they have to offer. Below are some images that I have taken of the food and it is clear to see the effort that goes into their presentation. As for the taste of the food I could write another blog post on how tasteful it is but I'll leave it to the Trip Advisor community to fill you in!
